“A writer is a person for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.”
Such has been the case with Nandini Joshi, the writer of ‘My 11 Life Percepts’. Born in Kolkata and brought up in Rajasthan, she completed her higher secondary from Sophia. Sen. Sec. School and is currently pursuing her graduation with particulars in English literature, philosophy and sociology.
She never thought of becoming a writer, but she really liked writing poetry and is still into it. But, last year, when someone told her that she is capable of writing a book, I was intrigued and started her way of a slow process into it. She puts it, “It was sudden in a knowing way”.
While in conversation with her regarding her ‘My 11 Life Percepts’ and her upcoming projects here are a few things she shared with Team Blue Trunk Press
What went into the process of writing your book?
The process of writing was easy as that was my process, but the way to publish my book was really demanding and gruelling. It affected many factors of life but I am thankful to myself for not giving up.
How did you come up with the title and the cover for your book?
So, basically, I was searching for a title which relates to my opinions or my personal lessons, then suddenly I thought why not precepts should be the word I am searching for. And then it dawned on me “MY 11 LIFE PERCEPTS” which means my 11 life lessons. As for the cover, I almost created 20 covers for my book, and every cover represented some of the other things. I was very confused, and then it suddenly appeared into my mind, that whatever I like will be the best to go with. At 2:00 am, I created the cover and gave it to the publications without thinking of any losses or sombre feelings of anyone.
What perspectives or beliefs have you challenged with this work?
Some things that I learnt during the process of writing this book are 1. That some of the other person will help me into this or my knowns will coordinate with my work. 2. Am I doing it for the sake of my career or passion? 3. Besides my friends, who will accept it as my lessons? 4. What will people react to it or will I be able to help them with my work?
How do you deal with a creative block?
To be honest, I steal ideas. I think that is the way one gets to create something. If the first novel of the world - The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu was not read by people, the world would be without authors today.
What advice would you give to a writer working on their first book?
Whatever it is, it will have flaws in it, but it doesn’t mean that it isn’t your first book. Whatever the flaws you observe, can be upgraded in your next work. It is your first book, do your best, give your 100%, that matters.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned while creating your book/s?
I learnt that no one can help you other than yourself. It is only you who can help you touch the sky with your own feet.
Tell us a little about your upcoming projects
I am working on my new project which will be a wildly imaginative collection of poetry, ALL OF ME, a moonwalk through poetry, reflecting some poetic imagination of mine.
